CIBB scientists (CNC-UC & iCBR & CEISUC) among the most cited in the world according to the "World's Top 2% Scientists" list

In the new edition of the "World's Top 2% Scientists" list, there are 74 scientists from the University of Coimbra (UC), more precisely in the list that concerns the most cited researchers in 2022. The 15 CIBB researchers mentioned in this selection are (in alphabetical order):

This study was conducted by a team of scientists from Stanford University (United States of America), coordinated by John Ioannidis, who is currently collaborating with the UC on the ERA Chair EXCELScIOR project. Data from 210,198 scientists from all over the world was analyzed, 790 of whom are linked to Portuguese higher education and research institutions.

The other list concerns the most cited scientists throughout their careers, with 45 UC scientists featuring prominently in this list of 204,644 researchers, 572 of whom come from Portuguese institutions. This selection includes 10 CIBB researchers (in alphabetical order):

Among the 22 scientific areas and 174 sub-areas analyzed, the most cited University of Coimbra scientists in 2022 stand out, for example, in the fields of Engineering (Energy, Transport, Materials, Electrotechnics), Chemistry, Pharmacology and Pharmacy, Marine Biology, Ecology and Medicine (Ophthalmology, Rheumatology, Reproductive Medicine, Clinical Medicine).

In the list of most cited researchers throughout their careers, UC scientists stand out in areas such as Pharmacology and Pharmacy, Physics, Chemistry, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Engineering (Civil, Electrotechnical, Energy) or Environmental Sciences.

The data presented in this study, published by the prestigious Elsevier publishing house, is collected from Scopus, and takes into account the index, volume of publications and citations of scientists from all over the world. The data relating to researchers' entire careers is updated until the end of 2022 and the data relating to citations over a period of one year refers to citations received during the calendar year 2022.
