Rui Miguel Oliveira da Costa (RC) graduated in Biology in 2006 and completed the PhD in Cell Biology in 2011/12/06 by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, with highest honors. Since 2019, RC secured a position at the Centro de Inovação em Biomedicina e Biotecnologia (CIBB), and leads his own subgroup within the Neurotrophic Signaling group. In the last 5 years RC have was awarded with research funding and participated in funded research projects, presented his work in national and international meetings and published 8 articles in journals and 1 book chapter (4 as first or senior author) and has 2 more articles in submission stage, denoting his successful scientific production. Of these papers some were in high ranked journals. In total, RC published 18 articles in journals (8 as 1st or senior author) and 2 book chapters in the Neuroscience field. RC is Senior and/or first author of his most prominent original papers published in Top percentile journals (1%-10%) in the areas of Cell Biology and Aging (e.g. Cell Reports, WIREs RNA, Aging Cell, Neurobiology of Aging,). His work had 1265 citations (625, since 2018), and an h-index of 15 (source: WOS, Google Scholar). His scientific contributions were in the areas of Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Neurosciences, Biological Sciences with emphasis on Cell Biology and synaptic biology. RC participates and/or participated as Principal investigator in 2 projects (work was published in Cell Reports journal as corresponding author), as PhD Student Fellow in 1 project(s), as Post-doc Fellow in 1 project(s), as Research Technician Fellow in 1 project(s) and as Researcher in 10 project(s). In his professional activities interacted with 168 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific papers. RC established several national and international collaborations, and acquired large scientific expertise by working at 5 different labs (Portugal, USA & Italy), in AD and axonal biology fields, mastering a wide range of methodologies (e.g. microscopy, molecular biology, neuronal cultures, cell lines, in vivo studies, in utero electroporation, MCAo and human sample processing). In Particular RC had advanced training at one of the most respected labs in AD field (Klein's Lab), at Northwestern Univ. (USA) and at the lab of L. Cancedda (Italy). RC completed a FELASA cat C course in Laboratory Animal Science (2010). RC has Organized 2 event (conceived and lectured science courses and I has been involved in outreach science awareness activities); Participated in 34 event(s); Lectured in BSc, MSc and PhD programs at the Universities of Coimbra and Algarve and formally supervised/co-supervised 7 MSc students (Portuguese and foreign) and several undergraduate students. Mentored/ tutored several PhD and MSc students during their laboratory internships (>13 in total); Has been Committee member in several theses defenses (8 MSc thesis, as main opponent) at the University of Coimbra and University of Aveiro; Presently, RC supervises 1 PhD student (UI/BD/154202/2022), 2 MSc students and 1 BSc student. Has received 7 awards and/or honors, including a scientific incentive grant (2022), PhD fellowship and Post-Doctoral fellowship in a highly competitive program (FCT 2006 and 2013, respectively); RC is ad hoc reviewer for several scientific journals (including Aging cell journal).
