The next Conversa Improvável (Improbable Talk), with the theme From science to volunteering: connecting knowledge to transform lives, will take place on December 19, from 12 noon to 1 pm, in the Lab. Design Thinking Room of the Student Hub, in the building of the Faculty of Medicine, pole I of the University of Coimbra. This conversation will include the participation of Dr. Ana Duarte, a researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Jorge Alves, Chairman of the Board of the Integrar Association, Professor Ana Margarida Abrantes, a doctor and researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, with moderation by Raquel Alves, and live illustration by Rui Tavares (comic book artist).
Volunteering has been an essential force in building healthier communities, acting on a number of fronts, from supporting families and promoting public health campaigns, to integration and promoting literacy. Although their impact is undeniable, significant challenges arise, such as the need for greater organization, specific training to deal with complex situations and the efficient management of various resources. In this context, how can we strengthen and broaden the impact of volunteering in promoting a more social, healthier and literate community?
In this talk, we will discuss these issues. The event is open to the whole community, in portuguese and admission is free.
The Conversas Improváveis are an initiative of the communication action group of the Metabolism, Aging and Disease (MAD) research line of the Center for Innovation in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CiBB) of the University of Coimbra, and aims to foster science and health literacy with informal discussions, approaching topics from various perspectives, to promote awareness of various diseases, and encourage early and informed actions and decisions, ultimately contributing to a healthier society.
The Conversas Improváveis take place in various iconic locations at the University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, namely the UC Student HuB, the Rómulo, the Science Museum, the Botanical Garden and the UC Exploratory, just to name a few.
Coordinating this initiative are the communication action group from CiBB-UC's Metabolism, Ageing and Disease line: Ana Isabel Duarte, Anabela Marisa Azul, Ermelindo Leal, Ilda Ribeiro, Manuela Grazina, Raquel Alves, Salomé Pires, Sandra Amaral.
