The next Conversa Improvável, dedicated to the theme Scientific Research Without Animal Models: Myth or Reality? to commemorate World Laboratory Animal Day, will take place on April 4 at Rómulo – Centro de Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra, from 12 noon to 1pm, with the participation of veterinarian Daniela Talhada, biochemist and researcher Raquel Santiago, biochemist and bio-entrepreneur Sofia Viana and pharmacist Isabel Vitória, moderated by Ana Isabel Duarte and with live illustration by Rui Tavares (comic book artist). The cultural moment will be hosted by Luísa Amado (PhD student and drawing enthusiast). This event is in Portuguese, open to the whole community, and the admission is free.
 

Conversas Improváveis is an initiative of the communication action group of the Metabolism, Aging and Disease (MED) research line of the Center for Innovation in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB) of the University of Coimbra, and aims to foster science and health literacy with informal discussions, to promote awareness of various diseases, and encourage early and informed actions and decisions, ultimately contributing to a healthier society.
 

The Conversas Improváveis take place in various iconic locations at the University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, namely at the Rómulo - UC Science Center, the Science Museum, the Botanical Garden, the multiple libraries and the Paço das Escolas, just to name a few.
 

The next session will take place on May 2 (World Asthma Day): "Living with asthma without limitations" (moderated by Ermelindo Leal and Salomé Pires).
 

Coordinating this initiative are Ana Isabel Duarte, Anabela Marisa Azul, Ermelindo Leal, Ilda Ribeiro, Manuela Grazina, Raquel Alves, Salomé Pires, Sandra Amaral, from CIBB-UC.
