The next Conversa Improvável (Improbable Conversation), with the theme Artificial intelligence is changing the healthcare landscape? will take place on June 6, from 12 noon to 1 pm, at the University of Coimbra's Polo III, in the space in front of the Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Health Sciences Library. The conversation will feature Professor Bárbara Oliveiros from the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Ernesto Costa from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Professor Filipe Caseiro Alves, a radiologist, and ChatGPT, with moderation by Raquel Alves and Sandra Amaral, and live illustration by Rui Tavares (comic book artist). The cultural moment will be hosted by Maria Teques (a master's student in biochemistry at the University of Coimbra), using AI tools.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an omnipresent force in our lives, permeating various spheres including health. While its use offers enormous benefits, such as faster and more optimized diagnoses and promising personalized treatments, it also raises risks and ethical questions. The reliance on AI algorithms for medical decisions introduces concerns regarding data privacy, biases and errors and user-health professional proximity, which imposes the need to establish clear limits and regulations. Against this backdrop, how can we make the most of AI's potential in healthcare? In this talk, we will discuss these issues. The event is in Portuguese, open to the whole community and admission is free.
Conversas Improváveis is an initiative of the communication action group of the Metabolism, Aging and Disease (MED) research line at the Center for Innovation in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB) at the University of Coimbra, and aims to foster science and health literacy with informal discussions, approaching topics from various perspectives, to promote awareness of various diseases, and encourage early and informed actions and decisions, ultimately contributing to a healthier society.
Conversas Improváveis take place in various iconic locations at the University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, namely at the Rómulo - UC Science Center, the Science Museum, the Botanical Garden and the UC Exploratory, just to name a few. The next unlikely conversation will take place on July 4, at 12 noon, at a location to be announced.
