Overview

Caio H. Franco completed a Ph.D. in Sciences (Major in Microbiology and Immunology) from Federal University of São Paulo in 2018. He has published 24 articles in peer-reviewed journals, accumulating more than 290 citations to date (accumulated impact factor 91.24, h-factor: 10, Plubons - June 2021). The main research developed by C. Franco is in the fields of Cell Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology. His main activities were focused on the design and establishment of numerous in vitro infection screening assays (chiefly based on high-content microscopy analysis), performing large-scale screenings with libraries of small molecules/natural products, and phenotypic and genetic characterization of drug-resistant parasites (T. cruzi, P. falciparum). C. Franco also established a screening to identify compounds that disrupt/inhibit biofilm formation by Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus spp.). C. Franco is currently working with functional genomics screenings and bacterial infections as a Postdoc at the RNA & Infection laboratory (PI: Dr. Ana Eulalio) at the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology (CNC/CIBB, University of Coimbra). His current work is focused on identifying microRNAs that regulate S. aureus infection, while also implementing a functional screening assay to assess the effects of microRNAs in Salmonella infection of macrophages.
