Teresa Cunha-Oliveira has a PhD in Cell Biology, having contributed to introducing the role of mitochondria in the field of drug addiction. She studied the role of mitochondria in neurodegenerative diseases and drug toxicology, using in vitro and in vivo models, particularly focusing the mechanisms associated with long-term mitochondrial dysfunction, involving transcriptional deregulation and epigenetic signaling. She is interested in interdisciplinary and applied scientific approaches to mitochondrial biology and therapeutics, having trained in entrepreneurship, computational biology and Data Science.
