Overview

Head of Science Communication Office at CNC. Degree in Biochemistry (2009, UC), Master in Biochemistry (2010. UC) and PhD in Biosciences, thesis in Science Communication (2015, UC). She has been involved in several projects that aim to establish innovative strategies that promote the appropriate communication between scientists and different audiences, and to foster scientific education in biomedical field. These projects include educational projects with a strong interaction with schools (Pergunta-me Ciência, Ciência em Cena, Ocupação Científica de Jovens nas Férias, and Brain Awareness Week initiatives), public engagement initiatives (Researcher ́s Night, Cafés Scientifiques), art and science projects, fundraising projects (Maratona da Saúde) and impact evaluation studies. Additionally, she was enrolled in science education activities based on hands-on models, namely at the Centro Ciência Júnior (Biocant, Cantanhede, Portugal) and at the Centre for Life (Newcastle upon Tyne, UK). Therefore, her research interests are science communication strategies, impact evaluation methods, scientific culture and citizenship, public engagement in science, science education, fundraising for biomedical research, and art and science initiatives. In Science Communication Office at CNC she has the responsibility of national and international public engagement and education projects in order to approach the scientific and non-scientific communities and to increase scientific literacy, a strategy that could contribute to the construction of a truly scientific culture and citizenship. She is promoter of PubhD Coimbra initiative and member of Pos-doc @ UC initiative.
