Role of adenosine P1 receptors in the control of cortical neurons migration – the first unilateral mechanism in brain development?

Overview

Project Summary

Characterization of the role of adenosine receptors and of different patterns of consumption of their antagonist, caffeine, in the tangential and radial migration of cortical neurons  during corticogenesis, their impact in the development of cortical cytoarchitecture/circuitry in an hemisphere-specific manner, and the outcome to brain function. Consolidation of a lateralization not only in brain function, but also in brain development.

Project DOI

Main Goals

1. Identification/characterization of the role of P1 receptors in neuronal migration.

2. Identification/characterization of the impact of P1R-driven control of cortical neuronal migration to the development of brain cytoarchitecture and synaptic network.

3. Identification/characterization for the first time the existence of a lateralisation in the mechanisms governing brain development.
