The University of Coimbra (UC) and Stemlab S.A., owner of the Crioestaminal brand, have signed an agreement to support the activities of the Reproductive Biology and Stem Cells research group at the University of Coimbra's Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC-UC), led by professor and researcher João Ramalho-Santos, the UC's current Vice-Rector for Research.
This UC research group has been carrying out research into the basic biology of gametes and stem cells, focusing on aspects related to metabolism in translational projects related to infertility, medically assisted procreation and fertility preservation. This collaboration aims to help improve understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved and to improve clinical procedures.
The company that owns the Crioestaminal brand will provide anonymized samples of umbilical cord tissue cells / umbilical cord blood obtained during the course of its activity. It should be noted that this donation is part of the Research and Development (R&D) biobank using samples donated for R&D purposes, with the informed consent of the donors, and does not involve samples from the company's clients.
