Precision Redox: Improving preclinical screening of redox-active agents
Mitochondria are central organelles in cell biology and their dysfunction is associated with many diseases. Our group looks at mitochondrial physiology in an integrative way to characterize mitochondrial profiles associated with mitochondrial health and disease, with the final goal of validating innovative therapeutic strategies to improve cellular health. We intend to have an innovative and interdisciplinary vision that fosters synergies and stimulates the integration of different interdisciplinary views and techniques. We apply experimental cell biology techniques, including cell culture, cellular respirometry, high-content microscopy, quantitative PCR, western blotting, fluorimetry, spectrophotometry and luminometry. We also rely on a constant cross-talk with computational biologists and data scientists at the CNC and UC, to model and understand metabolic and redox fluxes and to explore experimental datasets in order to uncover hidden patterns in the data. We are also interested in the translation of academic knowledge and the development of a service facility associated with Predictive Mitochondrial Toxicology (MitoXT services).
